丹麦唯听公司更换CEO

唯听的巨变——注入新鲜血液

Several articles in the Danish media, 30 August 2013, cover the fact that Widex is now hiring an external CEO, replacing the present management in the family owned and managed hearing aid company. The new CEO is Jørgen Jensen, previously CEO at Nilfisk-Advance since 2005, a global supplier of professional cleaning equipment with app. 5,200 employees.

    2013年8月30日,丹麦多家媒体均在报导一件事,那就是唯听公司外聘CEO来取代以前的家族式占有和管理助听器公司的模式。新的CEO是 Jørgen Jensen,Jørgen Jensen之前 从2005年开始担任Nilfisk-Advance(力奇先进)的CEO, 力奇先进是一家专业清洗设备与应用程序的全球供应商,在全球有5200名员工。

The executive management group has until now consisted of the three descendants of the two founders of Widex – Jan Tøpholm (67), son of Christian Tøpholm, together with Anders and Søren Westermann, sons of Erik Westermann. Widex was founded in 1956, has 3,800 employees, 43 sales units across the world and a turnover of DKK 3 billion (USD 600 million). It is said to be one of the five to six largest hearing aid companies, with a market share around 10% and yearly growth rates of 10%.

Earlier this year, announced on 26 May, two new members of the board joined the ‘family’ from the Danish business world, Ulrik Bülow and Lars Frederiksen. Ulrik Bülow brings with him a background as CEO of the Danish cosmetics and health care retail chain, Matas, and Lars Frederiksen was CEO of the Danish ingredient/enzyme corporation, Chr. Hansen.

Bringing fresh blood to the board of directors was seemingly the first truly visible step in the Widex transformation, allegedly part of a strategy lau5nched three years ago containing 14 concrete changes. Today, we have seen the next step with the change of the guards, introducing Jørgen Jensen as the new CEO.

The three now former executives will continue as members of the board and leave the daily management behind – acknowledging that it has been a challenge to unite strategic planning with daily routines. One of Widex’ challenges has been to strengthen the ties to the subsidiaries during years of growth. Revenues have increased 20-fold since mid-80’ies where Widex only had two subsidiaries and 250 employees. At present, a new ERP system is in pipeline, expected launch 1 January 2014, and back-office functions will be centralized and moved to Estonia.

The choice of the new CEO relies heavily on his fundamental values and his ability to act within the frames of the longsighted strategies which characterize a family owned company as opposed to listed companies with fierce demands for quarterly performances.

新任CEO将面对规范季报的上市公司的激烈竞争,对唯听这个家族式企业而言,远景战略抉择很大程度上依赖于他的基本价值观和他的能力。

The expectance is not that Jørgen Jensen will create a turn-around for the company within the first year or two, and Widex is expected to show rather unsatisfying results when it publishes its annual report around September, reflecting the ongoing and imminent restructuring of the company. “I see Widex as an uncut diamond”, Jørgen Jensen says, “with a great potential for winning market shares and further improving revenues, thereby taking the company to a whole new level”.
